I this song lyrics is about the people who come back from the war. I'm not sure whether civil wars or western expansion or else??? Howver, I like the singer's voice, it's so strong and encourage.

My Closing Blog

I tell you the truth that I'm the one who don't like to watch the history movies even my own country's movies. So, it's quite hard for me to do so.
Before I study this course, I just watch without nothing. However, after I studied this course, I realise that the history movies are more than what I've ever thought. Now I know more about one country that is America. It's not easy to build up one country. Many people have to sacrifice their lives as in the movies.

Also, I know more of the culture of America and the traditional with mixed from many nationalities. I think, I studied this suject "Aspect of American Culture", it's not only American but also make me realise that almost every countries had to be someone who sacrifice in order to build up one culture. However, America is a combination of various nationalities. They love freedom and equality. The course make me know that America is not superior than other countries but they are superior because they respect each other right. Also, the songs ' lyric can help you understand each period situation too.

Finally, I think I'm so lucky that I choose to study this course. B'coz it help me to open my viewpoint and more clever in another country history out of my country. Moreover, I don't need to read the book a lot if I understand from the movies and songs.
I couldn't make it out if I don't have A. Cecil, the great American historial teacher. Thank you very Ajarn. I'm so appreciate for what you have taugh me. I won't forget it.

I like this song because of the music and the lyrics that showed the time which the singer have to meet. In that time, I think back people lives with dangerous. So, they have to carry a gun.

Freedomlamd (civil right)

This story was happened at Armstrong Houses, Jersey. Brenda, white women who lives in Gannon told the police that a black guy stolen her car at Armstrong Houses and inside a car has her son(Cody). Detective Council Lorenzo, a well-known detective in Armstrong area, is a person who in charge of this case. Brenda tell Lorenzo that her son is sleeping in a car while it was stolen. In deep, Lorenzo are not 100% believe in what Brenda said. Brenda works in Rainbow Club.Brenda has a brother, he is a police in Gannon. Felicia and Billy are husband and wife. Felicia work in the same place with Brenda. When Brenda's brother know about this case, he ordered his team to detain people in Armstrong for finding a outlaw. People in Armstrong are not happy with this because they didn't anything wrong. By the helping of Friend of Kent, group of people who looking for missing children. Thay want to help Lorenzo to find Cody. They suggest to looking for Cody in Freeland, , the desert foster home.Brenda surrender to tell the spot where Cody was buried. She tell Lorenzo everything about Cody. She let Cody drink a little of cough syrup everynight to put him to sleep so can go to see Billy. But one night, she really wanna talk to Billy, Cody don't want her to go and tell that she will be sorry if she goes. Then, she came back and find out that Cody died b'coz he drink all bottle of cough syrup.

The main character is Brenda and Lorenzo, Brenda act like the psycho. Lorenzo is like psychologist. Brenda didn't have intention to let Cody died. Brenda is reflect the single life very well that full of stress from the society.

From the movie, the black people are like 2nd class people in US. As in the movie, one black guy said,"The circumstances were, they were a bunch of mud-flat animals on welfare that didn't deserve the consideration or respect you give a dog." People seem to care more about white people and if black people did or didn't do smth wrong they already be a suspect. But I think one of the reason is how do black people in movie talk, they talk no so nice but maybe they are so angry.

MASH (Cold War)

MASH is came from the name Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. MASH is a story about the group of doctor who we in the Korea. The scene begin helicoptor printed MASH carry patients to the camp. The two doctor named Duke and Hawkeye came to the camp with a jeep. MASH is curing many patients not noly American but also Korean. Mostly movie is show lives of doctors and nurses in camp and scenes of surgery, not have scene of battle. Captain Hawkeye is likely to be a planner for everything. Captain Duke is like to drink alcohol. They like to tease Magaret "Hot Lip" but finally Cpt. Duke like Hot Lip. So I don't have much to explain about the movie. But at the last scene Cpt. Duke and Hawkeye was went back with the same jeep that they arrived.

There are many main characters but most memorable are Cpt. Duke and Hawkeye. Eventhough, they are behave like children but they are doing a good job. Personally, I like Radar because he is so funny, he know everything that his boss going to say.

This movie showed me the otherside of war. In the MASH camp there are lots of fun. They're played golf, singing, drinking almost everyday.I like the scene that they played a football with 256 army force. MASH team use many plans in order to win. They are so cheerful eventhough they are in a front line of battle. People gone crazy in this movie. Also, I see the black people in this movie. And I like the soundtrack at the beginning of this movie.

Flying Leathernecks (WW II)

The Lathernecks' action scenes are from the real situation. It is an aviation.The story about the hard-pressed group troops were holdings the airstrip only be affort beyond maximum. On the 16th August, the battle for Guadalcanal was still very much in doubt. Major Kirby is take charge in the battle with Japanese. His code is Jigsaw. His team was fought with Japanese marine. Finally, the US Marine won because Jigsaws bombed the Japanese marines.

The main character is Major Kirby but actually they are many. Major Kirby is a straight forward person. He is really response for his duty. He is skillful in driving a plane.

I can see that in the period of World War II, people looked so serious and scary. US Marine and planes are so high technology compared to a period of time. The planed can fold their wings. It's so amazing to see that. Many people die during the war. Also I can see the fearless of the soldiers both US Army and Japanese Army. But I still don't know the jargon like MPs or PFC.????

Pride of Yankees (Great Depression)

The movie is based on the true story of Lou Gehrig, a famous baseball player. Lou Gehirg is born in middle class family. His mother was a cooker in Columbia University. He like to play baseball since he was young but his mother wanted him to be an engineer like his uncle. Lou very loved his mother so he joined Columbia University. Also, as the same time he joined university baseball club. One day his mother was sick and he need money so he had to go town of Harvard for money. His mother think that he going to Harvard University. So he had to lie his mother. He succeed with the team and later come back to join New York Yankee. He was called "Tanglefoot" because he fall over the bats, person who called hime was Eleanor,later became Mrs Gehrig. He was famous with the Yankees. He promised one sickness boy that he going to strike 2 ball for him in the game. He did it. He married with Eleanor. He won many award. Unfortunately, he was sick and cannot play baseball.After playing a baseball for 2130 games in 16 years. In the last scene, they were a farewell for Lou at the Stadium.

Lou Gehrig is g genius baseball player. He not give up and relly love baseball. Eventhough, he was a sportman but he's really romantic person. He's famous but still take care of the society. He teach children how to play baseball.

From the movie, I can see that people in that period crazy about the sport and educational. Also, they are many immigration as I can see from the accent of Lou's mother. There is an evelator in the doctor office. At the last part the movie is very sad when Lou know that he was sick and going to die especially when his wife tied the necktie for him.

Hello Dolly (Industrial)

Dolly Levi (Barbra Streisand), widow, is a famous matchmaker. Everybody khows her. If you what something you just tell Dolly she can do everything for you. This is her phylosophy. She try to match Mr.Vandergelder, a single rich man in Yonker however Mr.Vandergelder is a tough guy, he think other is fool. He's going to NY to meet Mollou his future wife. But Dolly don't want that so she ask Vandergelder's clerks, Mr. Tucker and Mr.Cornelius to go to NY for meeting with Mollou. Tucker and Cornelius pretend that they are richmen from Yonker. Mollou believe that and go out for a date with him. Dolly fell in love to Mr. Vandergelder and finally he asks her to marry with him.

The main character is Dolly Levi. She is a cheerful and good human relation. Everybody loves Dolly while she walks she greet everybody. Also when she goes to restaurant, everybody is so happy to see her. She's very clever and intelligent woman.

From the movie, I can see the evolution of technologies such as tram, train, streetcar, buildings, electricity post, etc. Also, people live with luxury lives. They dressed up with expensive and elegant styles. Women dressed up like a evening dress all the times. Men dressed up in tuxedo or suit. Having meal in luxurious restaurants. Women roles seem to change because they can live on their owns. It's difficult to find a housewife. But I fell that the movie talk very fast especially Barbra, she speak so fast. And it's mostly like the musical music which makea me a little bit confuse.

The Gold Standard (Research Topic)

Gold Standard is monetary system, which the standard economic unit of account is a fixed weight of Gold. It's meaning to say they use gold to be a main part in trading. There wil be a grarantee for gold. The system in no longer use in the world because we use the flat money.

In the 1870,The first adoptation of gold standard is German, continued with Latin Monetary Union ( Belguim, Italy, France, Switzerland) and United States. But hitorian claimed that it began in England since 1717.

The starting crisis of Gold Standard was incresing in living standard. The central banking and the financial system was proven largely be example as the 1890 bail out of Baring Band by Bank of England. Bearing had been almost bankrupcy. Only the US. still lacked a central banking system. Only the United States still lacked a central banking system. Since the end of the depressions of the 1880, the increase rate of industrail and imperial colonization. Also served to push living standard higher.
Another reason is tho free the standard to fund the war.

The depression and Second World War (1933-1945)
In 1933, during the Great Depression, the London conference marked the death of the international gold standard as it had developed. The main problem was what value the gold standard should take. The US. adviced that reflection of prices occur before returning to the Gold Standard. The UK would use favorable trading arrangements to aviods tax discipline. Another disagreement is role of tariffs in defeat of the gold standard.

Tom Horn ( Industrail)

The movie is from the true story of Tom Horn (1901), is a cowboy. He was hired by John Cotler, member of the Association to protect the cows. He is good at rifle. He killed the cow theives. He fall in love with a your school teacher. Unfortunately, he was accused that he was killed young boy. But the real reason that he was teased by association member which unsatisfied him. But John believe that Tom is innocent. However he was sentenced to hang.

The main character is Tom Horn,a cowboy, honest and faith person. He like the hill. He keep his word. He such a great horse rider and gunshooter. He love to have the freedom.

From the movie, I realize that when people get into the industrail age, people mostly wearing suits. Not much of the people wearing cowboy clothes, however, they still riding horses and carring guns. Also, the way of hanging people is different, they developed to use the water system. The music in this movie is kind of folk and country music I saw they guitar and violin. Importantly, in the industrial age the cowboy seem to be in the second class people, they have to do work and become drunken. I wonder why Tom was sentenced to death because in reality he's not wrong, there should be some way to help him. (^0*!)

Surviving Christmas

Drew is a owner of Barcode Advertising Agency. He ask his girlfriend, Mizzy, to go to Fiji with him on X'mas but she refuse b'coz X'mas is family holidays. And she want him to introduce her to his family so that she will go to Fiji with him. Drew doesn't want to do that so he have to spend his X'mas alone. He doesn't want to spend X'mas alone so he ask his friend about this. His friend tell him that has to write down the grievances on paper and burn it outside of the home of his birth to help him with loneliness issues. He follow his friend advice. While he is burning his grievances Tom Valco, owner of the house, hit on his head and he become unconscious. When he wake up, Drew tell about his problem to Valcos. He want to stay at Valcos' house. He tall that he want to rent Valcos' house during the X'mas. He give them $250000 to be his family for X'mas to the Valcos for services render on X'mas. The Valco family will aid Drew in recapturing those chilhood X'mas memories. Actually trouble is brewing in the Valco family, Tom and Chistine are in bad marriage time. Tom begins his memory by: buying a Chirtmas tree, dress-up, house decoration, snow fighting, etc. He does everything that suppose to be in X'mas time. But the Valcos seem unhappy about that especially Alicia, daughter. He like with Alicia. One day, Mizzy call Drew and tell that her family is going to see Drew at his house. So, the Valcos has to play as a real family with Drew which he will pay more $75000 to them. While they're touring the house, they have some problem with Drew so he has to go out from Valco House. In reality, Drew's memories about X'mas is just stay in house or in the coffee shop that his mother is working until 18 years old, his mother died. Tom come to his apartment and go to the theater with him. At the theater he met the Valcos and celebrate Chritmas with them.

The main character is Drew, he is busy hard working man. He doesn't have much of his Christmas memories.
From the movie, I think that there will be people like Drew for sure. People who have to stay alone in Chrismas or forget what is Christmas. The movie showed me that people in US are really care about the X'mas. They spend time together and they usually don't want to stay alone in Chritmas but if they do, it'll be very sad. I can see that Christmas Cultures are almost same in most of the countries,like Chirstmas Tree, house decoration, red dress, Mr. Santa Claus, family together, exchange gifts,etc. I think this movie is get me understand more of X'mas and it better more my previous picture "White X'mas". I like Christmas.

White X'mas

It begin the story with solidiers celebrate the x'mas in war. And the soldier become a famous duo singer.
I couldn't finish this movie because I don't get what the movie is after I watch it around 20 minutes. Most of the movie is about singing a song so it kind of confuse for me (-,-!). Sorry to say. But I get something for this movie after I watch for short time that is people sing a song on X'Mas day and the soldiers sad b'coz they couldn't celebrate the x'mas with family. I 'll watch "Christmas Survive" instead of this movie.

Son of Paleface

Porter Paleface Jr. graduate from Harvard University. His girlfriend tell him to get the fortune of his father. His father is Porter Paleface, who won the west. Porter kill Indians for gold. The indians hate him. At that time, "The Torch" ,a robber gang, is needed by the government. This gang is live in the town that Porter Jr. are going to. Mr.Roy,federal man who try to catch The Torch, is disguise himself as a cowboy singer. He come to the town to help the sheriff catch The Torch. Porter reach the town and relized that his father was left 2 things for him: debts and fortune case. He wish that in the case will full of gold, but it was emtry. But he had to pretend that it's a gold inside. He fall in love with Mike, the head of The Torch, but he didn't realize b'coz she was disguise herself as a club singer. In the other hand, Indians know that son of Paleface come to the town and has a gold. They want to kill Jr. and take the gold back. As the same time Mike want his gold too. She pretend that she is going to marry him. But Jr. has to find his father's gold, he get some help from Eff, an oldman. People know that there is no gold so they try to hurt Jr. By accidentially Jr. and Eff find the hidden map of gold. They headed to the direction. Mike and Indians hand together to kill Jr. But Mike was betray by her gang and want to help Jr. and Mr.Roy. They found that the gold was hide in deer horn. But they have to run away from the indians. Finally, everyboby was saved and Mike know her heart that she love Jr. But she has to be in jail but after she came out. She had kids with Jr.

The main character of this movie is Jr. He is crazy with his Harvard University. Everythings he wear has name of Harvard. I think he is funny when he dressed up with the logo of Harvard.
I watch this movie for second time b'coz, the first time I really don't get what is the movie is. But my second time I enjoy with this movie b'coz the movie had lots of old kind of special effect techniques.This movie showed me that the indians are very angry with what the white people do to them.

Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid

Butch Cassidy(real name Robert LeRoy Parker) is a clever man,he used to be the robbery planner. Sundance Kid(real name Harry Longabaugh) is a skillful gunman. Their gang named "Hole in the Wall Gang" which very famous. They robbed the money from the Union Pacific Railroad. So the owner of Union Pacific Railroad hired the professional people to detect them. Butch and Sundance run away for the detective team from along time but it's very difficult because one in the was an indian man. He is very good in detect people. So they decide to stop robbery and go to Bolivia which Butch think that Bolivia is like California. When they reach Bolivia, it is totally different from their immagination. There is nothing in Bolivia. However, banks in Bolivia has no security system so they decide to rob again. They robbed many bank in Bolivia and they become most wanted robbers in Bolivia. One day, they robbed the people in mountain and take their horses and come to the town. People in the town can recognize at the sign hourse hips and tell the police. Butch and Sundance fight with a hundred of policemen. Finally, Butch and Sundance died.

The main characters are Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid. They are very handsome speciall Robert Redford as Sundance. He make me fun with the movie.

From this movie I know something that cowboy didn't have sense of detective as good as indians. And I wonder why cowboy don't like to take a shower. And they love freedom very much as you can see from the Sundance, he let go his girlfriend and stay in Balivia with Butch to do their jobs. Also, bicycle was introduced in this movie period. Bicycle recognized as thing for future. I really like this movie.

Dances with Wolves

the story is about the us soldier, Dunbar, accidentally he was a hero in battle. So he got rewards that was a house and the permission to choose the force place everywhere he wanted to be. He chose to be in western frontier,Fort Shedwick, the far away place. He was lead by a man but after sent Dunbar, that man was killed by Pawnee. When he arrived there was no one, many day passed,there still no one. He met only a wolf name Two socks. One day he met a white girl, her body full of blood. She afraid of Dunbar so the faded. Dunbar took her back to Sioux village. Sioux was angry with Dunbar. Later Dunbar was accept to Sioux because he is good person and Sioux' leader want to talk with Dunbar.
Then the good relationship began, he learned about the Sioux language his first word is the buffalo. He was named in Sioux language "Dances with Wolves" because the indians saw him played with Two Socks. Dundar told about the direction of buffalo and helped Sioux to fight with Pawnee. He married to a Sioux girl that he helped her. One day while he come back to his house at frontier to take his diary. He met soldiers and they shot his horse. It died right away and he was take to the jail. Then, the indians helps him out. Finally, he decided not to stay with Indians because the indians will be in danger b'coz of him.
The main character is Dunbar, US soldier, he is open-minded. He's open to Indians culture. He is a really man. Also, I think his horse is main character b'coz it's very clever. Additionally, a wolf, Two Socks b'coz it's lead the name of Dances With Wolves.

From this movies it tell me something more about Sioux Indians, they were great hourse culture of the plains. They worships their God by dancing. They will kill the buffalo only the number the sufficient for them. Indians was not cruel like what I think. But they are cruel b'coz of white people. For the Indians that I think they cruel is Pownee b'coz they take the flash out of the human body after they killed them. Overall, I think this movie is fun to watch but it's very long. (*!*)
